We tap on machines to post ourselves to screens
because being seen is one of our biggest dreams.
But do you ever get the feeling that you're being watched?
I don't mean the bots tracking how you shop,
or the red light cameras with infrared rays,
but like you're under the eyes of a distant gaze?
Maybe it's a person with special technology,
maybe it's a god depending on your mythology,
maybe an alien spying down from above,
are they watching to learn, do they watch us to love?
I don't know, but I figure if they aren't explaining
I'll have to do my best to be entertaining.
You can't stand out if you're too busy fitting in,
and if I make some memories I'll consider it a win.
Even if the brain containing them is one I do not know,
I hope they like what they see when they tune to my show.
But I'm not going to freak out, act up and go crazy,
an anonymous monitor is just not gonna phase me.
