Ile d'Ogoz sur la Toile

Description

EN:Here is a small canvas of 24x30cm in acrylic paint, representing the island of Ogoz.

The island of Ogoz is located on Lake of Gruyère in the territory of the municipality of Pont-En-Ogoz in the canton of Friborg in Switzerland. The oldest document to mention the Lords of Pont dates back to 1179 and the castle is only mentioned in 1231 and its construction certainly dates from the 13th century. Pont-en-Ogoz was initially under the influence of the Lords of Maggenberg and the young town of Friborg. Then from 1250 this lordship depends on the House of Savoy which will exercise its influence there for two centuries. Already in the 14th century, the lordship was divided into several pieces headed by co-seigneurs. And subsequently in 1452 and by the hazards of successions, the Pont family no longer had any rights over their ancestral Lordship, which was in the hands of the familly Mayor de Lutry. In 1482 Antoine de Menthon whose family had succeeded in obtaining a good part of the town, he sold all his rights on it to Friborg which shortly after ended up acquiring the whole lordship and installing a first bailiwick there. Then at the beginning of the 15th century the bailiwick and the town were abandoned and the State of Friborg allowed people to come and collect ashlars. The ruins of the castle were found on an island during the construction of the Rossens dam in 1948, because in fact the lake of Gruyère is an artificial lake. The island is accessible on foot in the spring.
